48 hours in London? Read our must visit list

If you’ve only got 48 hours in London, how do you choose what to see and what to leave until next time?  Well these are our top suggestions and our must visit list for your few days’ stopover and whistle stop tour in London.

Forget jet lag and start enjoying the amazing sights of the capital from the beginning, and don’t waste anytime book your cab from London Heathrow to your hotel and enjoy a mini tour of London on your way to the hotel.

With only 48 hours you will be very pushed for time so every second counts, the last thing you want to do is to be standing in queues.  Booking ahead will help alleviate some of this but there are some sights you just can’t miss.

Buckingham Palace is open to the public over summer but with limited time go and see the changing of the guards outside the Palace.  This impressive parade happens every day at 11.30 and finishes about 12 noon.

One of the best ways to see London quickly is from the open top double decker sightseeing bus.  You get a guided tour of London with commentary available in many different languages while you get to experience over 150 top London sights and attractions.  These include the Houses of Parliament and Big Ben to the Tower of London, London Bridge, The Shard and St Paul’s Cathedral to name but a few.  It really is a great way to experience the iconic and historic sights in London in just an afternoon.

You might have to save shopping for a longer visit but you can do some quick window shopping down Oxford Street to feel the buzz.  Then you can grab a cab down to the West End – a visit to London is not complete without seeing a West End theatre show, choose and book your show ahead and make a real night of it and enjoy dinner in one of the many restaurants in the area.  If you download the Minicabit app you don’t have to worry about late night trains just book a cab back when you are ready, and go door-to-door quickly.

Starting early the next day, begin with a must do trip on the London Eye where you can enjoy a birds eye view of the City and get some amazing photos.  It only takes 30 minutes to complete one revolution, moving so slowly that even to load it does not usually stop, as it’s slow enough to let passengers walk on and off the moving capsules.  Avoid the big queues and book ahead with fast track tickets.

After a quick lunch on the go, then choose one of these amazing attractions depending on your taste:-

For art lovers, a visit to The National Gallery will enthral you with many free events, alongside some amazing collections that visit the gallery. It also happens to be located on Trafalgar Square so you get to see another famous London sight – Nelson’s column.

For those who love nature, a trip to the finest park in London – Regents Park is a must. It has a boating lake, an open-air theatre, several award-winning gardens, a pub, and even London Zoo.  Whilst you may not have time to visit the zoo you can often catch a sneaky peek of a warthog or giraffe if you walk along the parks north end and along the Regent’s Canal.

And if really can’t stay away from the shops then you must visit the legendary department store on the Brompton Road in Knightsbridge, Harrods.  It really is an experience, even if its just to say you’ve been.

There’s no better way to finish of your flying visit to London then to visit a British pub for a pint and some traditional English food.  Spontaneity is great but if your time is limited then planning ahead can really make the most of your 48 hours in London.
