Things To Do This April

The clocks have gone forward an hour and we’re still trying to recover, but there’s no time to be sleepy as spring has sprung and there are lots of awesome things to do this month around the UK!

London – The London Marathon – 24th April

It’s that time of year again, the day when professional athletes, casual runners and those dressed in the most impractical of costumes descend on London to run the epic 26-mile route around the city. If you’re off to spectate this year then make sure you get there early to get a great spot on the route, especially if you’re heading for very busy areas such as Embankment, Tower Bridge or Cutty Shark. Prepare to stand… a lot! Pack light and wear comfy clothing to stay as cosy as possible.

Manchester – Northern Vegan Festival – 23rd April

Thinking of ditching the meat and dairy this year? Head down to the Northern Vegan Festival 2016 to sample the huge array of culinary delights, spread across 5 venues in Manchester. There will be live talks and cookery demos to help you get some ideas and perhaps even some new perspectives whilst the day is soundtracked to live music and informative films. There will be plenty of organic and homemade food to try alongside animal-friendly crafts and toiletries.

Bristol – Planetarium Nights at At-Bristol Science Centre – 7th, 21st & 28th April

Take a trip to the stars this April as At-Bristol Science Centre continues the hugely popular nighttime Planetarium shows. Designed for age 16+, there are two 45 minute shows to choose from; Exploring the Solar System 3D or Spring Stargazing 3D. Both will take you on a magical journey through the sky and into space to explore constellations, planets and much more, suitable for beginners to intermediate space explorers!

Stoke-on-Trent – Sci-Fi Weekender – Churnet Valley Railway – 2nd & 3rd April

Just a 25-minute drive from the centre of Stoke-on-Trent lies the quaint Froghall Station, home to Churnett Valley Railway. But on the 2nd & 3rd April, the railway will be taken over by some of Sci-Fi’s biggest stars! You’ll get to join forces with Dr. Who to battle off the Daleks from invading Froghall and marvel at the Cybermen, K9 and the Tardis on display at the full Dr. Who Exhibition! Down the line in Cheddleton, you’ll want to keep a low profile as the Imperial Forces will be seeking out Princess Leah with the assistance of Boba Fett, by command of the Dark Lord, Darth Vader. A superb family day out, with under 4’s riding for free!

Middlesborough – Transporter Bride Bungee – 3rd April

Feel like really testing your nerves this year? See if you can face your fears by taking a leap of faith off of the iconic, 160ft Transporter Bridge! Some would say the journey up is more nerve racking than the jump itself with 210 steps leading the way to the top. However, the views are amazing and definitely worth the climb. Then, revel in the tense moments before you hear the famous countdown that signals you to jump! You’ll hurtle towards the water in safe hands and the rush of adrenaline you’ll feel can’t be beaten! We might stay on the ground and watch for this one, though!
